Jindal wants surplus to help coast $300 million sought from state budget

Gov. Bobby Jindal will ask the Legislature to commit $300 million from the 2008 state budget surplus to coastal restoration and hurricane protection projects in the state, he said Friday.
If approved, two-thirds of that money will help buy all the land the Army Corps of Engineers has said it needs to finish improving the federal flood defense system to protect against a 100-year hurricane.
